La migliore ceramica si produce a Vietri (SA). L'argilla, l'acqua e il fuoco e la mano dell'uomo sono gli elementi cardine che danno vita alle forme e ai decori.

The Vietri’s ceramic is internationally famous for the typical colours of the Amalfi Coast, its splendid decorations and its wonderful designs.

In particular, the famous Vietri’s ceramics are characterized by the shining colours of the incomparable surrounding nature: the green of the sea, the yellow and the orange of the citrus fruits, which grow on the cultivated terraces, the turquoise and blue, meeting point between sky and sea. Colours which have made the ceramic’s legend of this corn of Italy , well know all over the world.

The panels, floors, plates, vases and everyday objects, exclusively hand decorated, express an ever evolving artistic creativity, whose roots are deep and illustrious.

In fact, extraordinary archaeological finds include tombs of 6th century BC containing ceramics, Roman baths, and a “murus reticolatum”.

In particular, Vietri’s ceramic art had an excellent expression in the 20^th century, when the German period started and an inflow of strangers, for the most part German artists, came and worked in the ceramic manufactories of Vietri. They exalted in their work the main images of the marvellous Amalfi Coast: fishermen, women, fishes, boats, flowers, fruits and the characteristic donkeys.

But, Vietri’s ceramic tradition is also written in the landscape: everywhere it’s possible to find ceramic ornamental elements (as the inimitable tiles set in the walls of the town) with contrasting colours without shadow or shades, just like the bright colours of the Amalfi Coast. Vietri becomes so a museum in the open air with a lot of workshops which still today testify a very flourishing and creative activity.
